ELEELE, KAUAI, HAWAII - Rare & Dear, Inc. and Kauai Community College (KCC) are pleased to announce that Gilbert Maerina was selected as this year's recipient of a $1,000 computer science scholarship.
This annual scholarship program was developed to recognize a Kauai Community College student matriculating to a four-year college in Hawaii to pursue a course of study in computer or management information science.
Maerina, of Kekaha, Kauai, attends the University of Hawaii Hilo Distant Learning Program that utilizes the Hawaii Interactive Television System (HITS) and the Internet. The students in the program are from around the state, and they meet remotely in "virtual workgroups" via email and phone.
Maerina was invited to the offices of Rare & Dear for an informal luncheon in his honor and was given a tour of the facilities, including a demonstration of an Oracle data model for a previous client.
